The Nutrition Clinic of the Universidad Iberoamericana of Mexico City is a model of health care for the promotion of healthy eating habits and physical activity for members of the university community.  It is also a research center where students perform nutrition practices and projects led by scholars from the Department of Health.

This center, coordinated by Dra. Alicia Parra Carriedo, NC, is an academic entity of the Departament of Health, whose purpose, besides the above mentioned, is to support the formation of professionals in Nutrition.

It offers its services to the university community that requests it, by providing tools and strategies to improve their diet and thus their nutritional status.  The guidance for the formation of healthy eating habits, adequate to their tastes and family traditions and proposes ways to improve their style and quality of life.

In addition to consultation and guidance given to the university community, the Nutrition Clinic evaluates the nutritional status of each member of the representative teams of the Iberian Wolves, so that together with Dr. Julian Perez of the Sports and Health Department, give the specifications of their training routines and nutrition to improve athletic performance.

It features the most advanced equipment in the international arena for the evaluation of body composition and determination of energy expenditure, equipment that allow students to come into contact with high technology, which include some of the most distinctive devices:

  • Equipment for measuring body composition Bod Pod: assessing body composition and to distinguish fat mass and fat-free mass-muscle, water, bone, represents one of the most widely used in research teams around the world.
  • RJL bioimpedance equipment, considered the international gold standard in this type of measurements.
  • Tanita and Tefal equipment; and
  • Interactance infrared Futrex equipment.

It also has everything you need for anthropometric measurements and assessments, as skin-fold calipers – subcutaneous fat-meters, electronic and mechanical stadiometer, and anthropometers – for physical dimensions and tapes.

Among the metabolic monitors are: Team Delta Trac II, to measure the resting energy expenditure, that provides real energy expenditure and the use of nutrients – protein, lipids and carbohydrates – and accurately infers the feeding schedule to be provided.

In this same category there is a meter to measure energy expenditures for physical activity, the Fitmate equipment, that when connected to a cycle it measures the expenditure during physical activity, and for the representative teams of the Iberian Wolves, it permits to provide specific training routines.

The clinic also has specific support to evaluate a diet that a person consumes, by using food replicas to visualize accurately the amounts of food and portions consumed.
